Iran suffered a massive power outage last weekend, local government officials blamed part of the cause on cryptocurrency mining, as reported by The Washington Post.

Tavanir, Iran’s state-owned power company has shut down a regulated mining company in the southeast province of Kerman. However, Ziya Sadr, a cryptocurrency researcher in Tehran, said that mining only accounts for a small part of Iran's total electricity, the outdate of management of the power grid making it impossible to provide power effectively.
