Top crypto commentator Dan Held combated the common accusation that Bitcoin mining is a wasteful process ultimately hurting our environment in a recent twitter thread.

The enviornmental argument against Bitcoin is that through high rates of electricity consumption and emission, Bitcoin mining could hurt attempts to conserve energy and address climate change. Held battled this charge, arguing that Bitcoin is more energy efficient than current banking systems. He added that nobody has the moral right to say that Bitcoin is a less worthwhile use of energy than any other activity (he cited watching the Kardashians).

Held went on to explain that Bitcoin allows energy to be converted into a digital commodity, which he believes to be the most simplistic way to for the physical world to validate something in the digital world.

"Bitcoin is a super commodity, minted from energy, the fundamental commodity of the universe. PoW transmutes electricity into digital gold. The fact that PoW is “costly” is a feature, not a bug," he wrote.
