During Janet Yellen's confirmation hearings to take over the U.S. Treasury Department on January 19, she stated that cryptocurrencies are a particular concern for terrorist financing. On Thursday, Yellen submitted her written testimony for the record which featured a much more nuanced stance on crypto. 

"I think we need to look closely at how to encourage their use for legitimate activities while curtailing their use for malign and illegal activities,” Yellen wrote.  

Additionally, Yellen noted that regulators should consider the possible advantages of digital assets and their potential to improve the efficacy of the financial system.
