Hester Peirce, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner who is affectionately called "crypto mom", talked about the regulation of DeFi in an interview with Forkast.News.
Peirce said the SEC is actively focusing on the DeFi space, but the regulation of DeFi is challenging. She explained: "It’s going to be challenging to us because most of the way we regulate is through intermediaries and when you really build something that’s decentralized, there’s no intermediary. It’s great for the resilience of a system. But it’s much harder for us when we’re trying to go in and regulate to figure out how to do that."
Peirce recommended a safe harbor approach to projects and assets that cannot be included in the scope of legal protection, that is, three years for such projects to determine which security laws the assets belong to.
