It's happening: Tesla invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin, accounting for 7.7% of its $19.38 billion cash holdings, according to a Form 10-K filed by Tesla to the SEC.

The document also mentioned that the company will acquire digital assets from time to time and hold them as means of a store of value. What's more, it plans to accept Bitcoin as a way of payment in the future.

After the news spreads out, Bitcoin first surged to $43,000 and immediately broke through a new high of $44,000 after a short correction. According to Bitpush data, as of press time, the price of Bitcoin is $43,311.75.

Antoni Trenchev, managing partner and co-founder of Nexo in London, said that he expects that by the end of 2022, at least 10% of S&P 500 companies will invest in Bitcoin.
