The South Korean commercial banking giant Shinhan and LG CNS, the IT services arm of the electronics conglomerate LG, have unveiled their joint pilot platform for central bank digital currencies (CBDC).

The two firms announced they would be partnering on the platform late last year, and the companies appear keen to combine Shinhan’s banking and custody expertise with LG CNS’ blockchain technology.

The new platform will allow customers and merchants to make financial transactions like payments, transfers and exchanges using their CBDC holdings.
