The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has publicly launched its central bank digital currency (CBDC) --DCash--on Wednesday.

ECCB, which headquartered in Saint Kitts and Nevis, is the currency management agency of eight island countries in the Eastern Caribbean.

DCash is currently operating in four pilot countries. ECCB cooperates with the fintech company Bitt to manage the infrastructure and operations of DCash. People can use DCash for consumption, e-commerce, business-to-business and internal cash management through the DCash Merchant App.

Next year, ECCB and Bitt plan to integrate DCash into the financial systems of the four pilot countries and integrate the remaining four member states into the DCash ecosystem.
