Alternatives to the SWIFT payment system may appear in Russia, and blockchain technology has the potential to be applied.

Alexander Pankin, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that with the development of blockchain and digital currency, the future global settlements may be carried out on a new technology platform.

Pankin believes that the alternative of SWIFT will be more advanced and will not become a monopoly. This is not only a response to current geopolitical realities but also a response to payment modernization.

SWIFT is the world's largest international payment network, spreads over 212 countries/regions with more than 10,000 members, network members use SWIFT codes to safely transfer money between accounts in different countries/regions.
