The Bank of England and the UK Ministry of Finance announced on Monday the establishment of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) joint working group.
The announcement stated that the government and the Bank of England have not yet made a decision on whether to introduce CBDC in the UK. The group aims to jointly conduct research of the UK's CBDC on pros and cons, risks and practicality with stakeholders.
The Bank of England stated that the CBDC will be a new form of digital currency for households and businesses, as well as coexist with cash and bank deposits.
