Ripple announced on Tuesday that Rosie Rios, the 43rd US treasurer, will join its board of directors.
Ripple also hired Kristina Campbell, an executive from financial technology companies Green Dot and PayNearMe, as its chief financial officer.
Rios said in a statement: "Ripple is one of the best examples of how to use cryptocurrency in a substantive and legitimate role to facilitate payments globally...Blockchain and crypto will underpin our future global financial systems."
The Treasurer of the United States is an official in the United States Department of the Treasury, Rios served as the US treasurer from 2009 to 2016. She became the longest-term Treasury official confirmed by the Senate.
