According to Coindesk, the digital financial platform Uphold has fired its Chief Compliance Officer Sameer Ismail, claiming that he fraudulently transferred and replaced company and user funds totaling 516,242 pounds (732,495 US dollars).

A private investigator said the embezzled funds may be much larger than this amount. According to the source, Ismail absconded with more than 35 BTC, the total value of which was close to $2 million at the time. Ismail also purchased a fake seizure order for 103,000 pounds and a fake crypto-asset license invoice for 10,000 pounds.

Before joining Uphold, Ismail served as Chief Compliance Officer at Luno (now owned by Digital Currency Group) and Chief Risk Officer at Coinify.
