U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Tom Carper said in an interview with NBC News that lawmakers should strengthen cryptocurrency regulatory measures, including how to track cryptocurrency transactions to combat ransomware attacks. 

A senator said: "We haven’t figured out in the country or in the world how to trace cryptocurrency. We've got to do a better job here.”

Senator Mark Warner also commented on the use of cryptocurrency in ransomware. He said: "There were some good things coming out of distributed ledger technology, but we are seeing now some of the dark underbelly, the challenges, and that’s why I’m focusing more on transparency."
