According to a report from CNN, people familiar with the matter revealed that US investigators have recovered millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, which was a ransom paid to the Colonial Pipeline ransomware hacker, which led to the closure of the East Coast pipeline last month.
People familiar with the matter said that the Department of Justice is expected to announce on Monday the details of the operation led by the FBI and its cooperation with the Colonial Pipeline operator.
Colonial Pipeline Co. CEO Joseph Blount told the Wall Street Journal last month that the company paid a ransom of $4.4 million because they could not determine the severity of the hack and how long it would take to resume operations.
