After El Salvador moves to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, the news attracts the attention of international financial institutions.

According to Reuters, International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesperson Gerry Rice said on Thursday: "Adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender raises a number of macroeconomic, financial and legal issues that require very careful analysis. We are following developments closely, and we'll continue our consultations with the authorities."

Rice said that the IMF will meet with the President of El Salvador later on Thursday to discuss the Bitcoin law.

El Salvador is seeking more than $1 billion in loans from the IMF, Reuters reported in March.
