According to local media Today Ng, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated in Lagos on Thursday that its own digital currency may be launched by the end of 2021. 

CBN information technology expert Rakiya Mohammed revealed that Nigeria has been studying CBDC for two years and has made great progress. 

The expert also stated that CBN will explore various technology options, cooperate with various industry participants, and enter the next stage of proof-of-concept to pilot the program.
