According to a report from BFM Business, Francois Villeroy de Galhau, President of the Bank of France, called on Europe to quickly introduce a regulatory framework around cryptocurrencies.

He said: "In terms of digital currencies and payments, we in Europe must be ready to move as quickly as needed or risk an erosion of our monetary sovereignty — something we cannot tolerate...I must stress here the urgency: we do not have much time left, one or two years."

Francois Villeroy de Galhau added that, in his view, the top priority is to "regulate crypto assets."
