Jarod Koopman, head of cybercrime at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, told CNBC that they seized approximately $700,000 worth of cryptocurrency in the fiscal year 2019, this figure was as high as $137 million by 2020.

The fiscal year lasts until September 30, Koopman said the amount has raised to $1.2 billion by 2021.

It is reported that the seizure of Bitcoin by federal agents began in 2014 with the fall of the Silk Road, a disbanded illegal darknet market, and Bitcoin is often used for payment.
