According to a letter published on August 11, Gary Gensler, the chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated that the SEC needs additional authorization from Congress to better regulate cryptocurrencies. 

Gensler's letter was in response to Senator Elizabeth Warren, who wrote to Gensler last month asking for his opinion on cryptocurrency regulation.

Gensler wrote: "I believe we need additional authorities to prevent transactions, products, and platforms from falling between regulatory cracks......In my view, the legislative priority should center on crypto trading, lending, and DeFi platforms."
