Iran legalized cryptocurrency mining in 2019 and began to impose taxes on it. In May 2021, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani imposes a temporary ban due to high temperature and power shortages.

"Financial Tribune" reported that Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, spokesperson for Iran's Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Company (Tavanir), said in today’s statement that Tavanir plans to stick to the scheduled resumption date on September 22 instead of extending the ban period, Tavanir hopes that electricity usage will be eased in the next month so that legal cryptocurrency miners can continue to operate.
