According to a report from the Financial Times on Wednesday, Twitter has created its own cryptocurrency team in order to become part of the decentralized Internet.

Tess Rinearson, an experienced blockchain engineer and member of the Interchain Foundation and Mina Foundation, will lead the team.

Rinearson said on Twitter that the new team will focus on cryptography, blockchain and other decentralized technologies, as well as exploring decentralized applications (Dapps) and the broader Web3 ecosystem, including but not limited to crypto space. She added: "Looking farther ahead, we’ll be exploring how ideas from crypto communities can help us push the boundaries of what’s possible with identity, community, ownership and more".

Twitter launched a Bitcoin Tipping feature for iOS users in September and then began testing it on Android devices. The company is also developing a feature that allows users to display their collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT).
