At the crypto hearing held by the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday,  given Brian Brooks' previous experience as the head of the OCC, Congressman Ted Budd asked if the U.S. government is "behind the curve" when it comes to fostering a pro-growth environment for crypto, Brian Brooks replied: "Unquestionably." 

Ted Budd expressed concern that "nanny country" (referring to countries that exercise parental control over their citizens) would implement too many crypto rules. Brooks stated that the United States is unique in its decentralized banking supervision system, suggested the government use its existing regulators to apply current rules to cryptocurrencies, rather than letting a single regulator oversee the entire industry.
