According to the Twitter account of Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, in a New Year’s message to bitcoin supporters this past Christmas Eve, he advised that it would be best to stay away from paper money and to instead focus on purchasing bitcoin.
On Salinas’s Twitter account, he provided suggestions to his 957,200 followers regarding the usage of bitcoin, as part of his Christmas and New Year’s message. He said, “Steer clear of fiat money. Whether it’s the Dollar, the Euro, or the Yen – it’s all the same. It’s fake money made of paper lies. Central banks are producing more than ever.”
Known as a strong bitcoin enthusiast since 2013, Salinas intends to turn one of Mexico’s largest retail banks, Banco Azteca, into the very first bank to conduct its business in bitcoin.
In reply to Salinas’s desire to have the bank conduct its business in bitcoin, Banco Azteca said that cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin have no place in Mexico’s financial system, since they are not legal forms of currency.
In spite of the fact that Salinas’s attempts to make bitcoin a legal form of currency in banks throughout the country of Mexico have largely been discouraged, he has not given up hope. He still wants Banco Azteca to be the first bank to utilize bitcoin as an acceptable form of currency, and has said that he firmly believes in bitcoin as an invaluable asset in an interview with Cointelegraph in January 2021.
