Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, said Uber will “absolutely” accept cryptocurrency in the future, in an interview with Bloomberg on Friday.
However, he mentioned that right now is not the time because the exchange mechanism of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is expensive and not environmentally friendly.
“As the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive, becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us lean into crypto a little bit more,” said Khosrowshahi. “If you say, is Uber going to accept crypto in the future? Absolutely. At some point.”
When Uber finalizes this position, they will join a plethora of big tech firms that have direct or indirect exposure to crypto like: Microsoft, PayPal, Etsy, Newegg and more.
