Victoria’s Secret and McDonalds are entering the digital space, after both companies filed patent applications related to the metaverse last week.
McDonald’s
Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney, announced on his twitter that McDonald’s filed 10 trademark applications as it plans to eventually set up a restaurant in the metaverse on Monday.
“McDonald's is headed to the metaverse,” he tweeted. “The company has filed 10 (TEN!) trademark applications indicating it plans to offer "a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods" and "operating a virtual restaurant featuring home delivery.”
Gerben pointed out that having stores in the metaverse allows consumers to stay connected in the metaverse while having a “real life” application. In other words, it allows customers to order food, while not disengaging from the metaverse.
Victoria’s Secret
In addition, Gerben broke the news that the intimate apparel company, Victoria’s Secret, is also gearing up for the metaverse by filing for four trademark applications of their own.
“Victoria's Secret is headed to the metaverse and has plans to sell virtual lingerie,” he tweeted. “The company has filed 4 new trademark applications indicating that it intends to sell "virtual undergarments, footwear and fashion accessories."
The Victoria's Secret application leads with, "downloadable virtual goods, namely computer programs for the creation and trade of digital collectibles using blockchain-based consensus protocols and smart contracts..."
These companies are the latest to file trademark applications, joining their contemporaries Walmart (WMT), Nike (NKE), Panera Bread, etc.
