Optimism, a layer-2 solution for Ethereum, has closed a $150 million Series B co-led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Paradigm at a valuation of $1.65 billion.
According to Optimism's official blog, Optimism has saved users more than $1 billion in gas fees since going live on the mainnet a year ago, and thousands of contracts have been deployed; the Optimism code has deployed three branches on the mainnet.
Optimism's next major release--Optimism: Bedrock---will achieve theoretically optimal transaction submission costs through a proof-of-failure architecture, Cannon, and contribute to EIP4844, which promises to further slash fees by up to 100x, the team said.
