Visa, the global financial services giant, announced the launch of their Visa Creator Program, a program designed to help small business owners of all kinds to accelerate their business through non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in response to the quick growth of the creator economy.

“NFTs have the potential to become a powerful accelerator for the creator economy,” said Cuy Sheffield, head of crypto, Visa. “We’ve been studying the NFT ecosystem and its potential impacts on the future of commerce, retail and social media. Through the Visa Creator Program, we want to help this new breed of small and micro businesses tap into new mediums for digital commerce.”

In the announcement Visa noted that there are around 50 million artists, musicians and creators publishing content to generate income. Visa wants to be a part of this quickly growing creator economy by selecting creators from art, music, fashion and film.

The Creator Program is aimed to bring a cohort-driven program of digital creators from around the world to build and strengthen their crypto influence while focusing on five key areas:

  • Technical and product mentorship: Mentorship with Visa’s crypto product and strategy leaders on all topics related to the developing digital field

  • Community building: the option to share ideas and problem solve with other community members going through the same stages

  • Access to top leaders: The opportunity to listen to and exchange ideas with top leaders in the industry

  • Exposure to Visas’s clients and partners: The ability to engage with companies across Visa’s network of clients and partners

  • Stipend: One-time payment to kickstart the NFT journey

Visa emphasized that this endeavor is part of Visa’s ongoing efforts to help catapult small businesses, including content creators and gig economy workers, into the digital economy.

In addition to starting their own NFT program, VIsa has got in on the NFT action as buyers, reporting in August last year they purchased a $150,000-CryptoPunk for its corporate collection. CryptoPunks are a cultural icon in the crypto community and an extremely popular NFT. Here is the NFT released on Visa's twitter.

In December of last year, Visa launched their own crypto advisory service.
