Twitter, Stripe’s first partner, already uses Connect to pay their creators from their monetization products, including ticketed spaces and super follows. Now a select group of creators will have the option to be paid in USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar,  if they choose so.

Payments will take place over the Polygon network, because of their low fees, speed, integration with Ethereum and broad wallet compatibility. Once creators receive their crypto, they can decide if they want to keep it on Polygon, or bridge to Ethereum and exchange it for something else. Twitter is the first company that will be able to try out this feature, which Stripe plans to bolster by adding additional rails and payment currencies over time.

“Twitter is where people go to have conversations about what’s happening,” product lead for creators at Twitter, Esther Crawford said. “We’re focused on helping creators who drive those conversations earn money and connect with their audiences in new ways. We’re excited to begin offering crypto payouts to creators via Stripe so they have more choice in how they get paid.”

Stripe, Inc., is an Irish-American company holding headquarters in both San Francisco and Dublin. The dual-headquartered company was founded in 2009 by two brothers, John and Patrick Collison.

The Global Payments and Treasury Network (GPTN) is Stripe’s infrastructure and service architecture that enables them to move money globally. Now GPTN is offering crypto payouts, as they believe in the power of crypto being able to solve “real-world problems.” By the end of the year, they plan to support crypto payouts in more than 120 countries.
