Horacio Larreta, the Chief of Government of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, confirmed that the metropolis will allow residents to pay some taxes with cryptocurrencies as part of a digitization plan called “Buenos Aires+” according to a local report.

In addition, Larreta took to Twitter to announce the plan in Spanish. When using the translate button provided by Twitter, using Google, it says:

The initial announcement came via a Zoom call, where Larreta was releasing the Buenos Aires+ plan, aimed at streamlining the link between citizens and the city. Buenos Aires chief of staff, Felipe Miguel; the Secretary of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Diego Fernández; and the Minister of Economic Development and Production José Luis Giusti were also on the call.

The local media team had a conversation with Fernández who had a lot to say on the matter.

"The appearance of the blockchain is a very relevant paradigm shift for society and will have a very large political, social and institutional impact . In 10 years the role of governments will be very different from today," Fernández said.

When asked about Argentina’s stance on crypto he said, " The Argentine government is a huge promoter of the crypto ecosystem. It is probably the one that is most favoring it in the world by establishing stocks, taxes, fees and forms. It catches you, then people look for ways out."

In short, Argentina wants to lead the way in South America through digitizing their government, which includes accepting cryptocurrency as payment method for some taxes. This could be the first step in the government adopting more crypto opportunities in the future.
