OneFootball Announces $300M Funding Round and OneFootball Labs

OneFootball announced a $300 million series D funding round led by blockchain fund and incubator Liberty City Ventures, and the formation of a new company named OneFootball labs. 

The funds will support the expansion of the company as it looks to grow in the web3 space and help aid the formation of OneFootball Labs. OneFootball Labs is a joint venture with Liberty City Ventures and gaming platform Animoca Brands. 

OneFootball Labs will enable soccer clubs, leagues, federations and players to create and monetize new fan experiences on the blockchain. 

“We believe the future of football away from the stands and off the pitch will be decentralized and built on Web3, giving back the ownership of data and digital assets to the fans,” said Lucas von Cranach, Founder and CEO of OneFootball. “OneFootball and OneFootball Labs will transform the digital experiences for football fans, giving them more access, more ownership and bringing them even closer to the game we all love, in a way that’s never been done before” 

In addition, Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu will join the board of both OneFootball and OneFootball Labs. 

"Over the last year, the sporting universe has made progress in harnessing the potential of NFTs and gaming, offering fans new digital experiences based on the important principles of true digital ownership and decentralization,” said Siu. “Animoca Brands is proud to have played a role in nearly every significant milestone in the development of true digital property rights via NFTs.” 

Other investors in this funding round included Dapper Labs, German investment company DAH Beteiligungs, Quiet Capital, RIT Capital Partners and Animoca Brands, among others.

OneFootball joins a plethora of other sports brands entering the web3 space including Adidas and Nike, along with soccer clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
