Simon Cowell’s production company, Syco, has filed a non-fungible token (NFT) trademark application for American Idol, according to a tweet on Friday from trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.
The trademark application was filed on April 25 and lists downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, photographs, text, audio and more relating to a talent competition series authenticated by NFTs.
This announcement comes after a report that announced the new season of American Idol, season 20, would feature NFTs of the contestants in the competition available on NFT marketplace ThetaDrop. Here is a live look at some of the NFTs available now.
Season 20 debuted on February 27, and is currently down to 10 contestants.
For the final episode, collectors with the NFT of the winner will be rewarded with their own exclusive Winner’s Ticket to Hollywood NFT, which can be redeemed for an actual ticket to Hollywood.
American Idol debuted on June 11, 2022 with Kelly Clarkson winning the competition.
