Elon Musk has Bored Ape Twitter Profile Picture, ApeCoin Slingshots 20%+

Elon Musk changed his Twitter profile picture to feature a number of Bored Apes, with the golden ape #5809 as the centerpiece, which sparked a 20% rise in ApeCoin (APE). 

The change in profile picture was soon followed by a clever tweet from the newly appointed owner of Twitter, “I dunno…seems kinda fungible.” While he did not directly mention Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), it seems only reasonable as his profile picture has a BAYC NFT, and given that they are one of the most popular NFT projects to date. 

In the last 30 days, BAYC NFTs have done 67,192.16 Ethereum (ETH) in volume, worth approximately $190 million, according to OpenSea data. Those numbers  put the project in the top five in volume for that time period. The Bored Ape NFT that Musk currently features in his profile picture currently has an offer of 6.64 ETH worth $18,890.67. It is owned by an unnamed account that owns 75 NFTs in total. 

However Musk’s new profile picture might not have been as fun…gible as he said, as some critics are calling the change a copy and paste effort, as Musk does not actually own that NFT. Even Twitter account Watch.Guru got in on the action tweeting,“So all you did was right-click save?” 

Nevertheless, the tweet by Tesla and SpaceX CEO created massive buzz around the NFT world and spiked by more than 20%, rocketing from $14.50 to $17.49, according to Bitpush Terminal data. However, the meteoric rise didn’t last long as it fell back by 10% over the next 30 minutes. At the time of writing, APE is valued at $15.08 per coin, making it up 2.36% in the last 24 hours.
