Former Citigroup executive James Tromans will lead the new Google group as they build services to help developers construct Web3 applications in an effort to become the first choice platform for developers, according to a CNBC report

According to the report, vice president at Google Cloud, Amit Zavery emailed employees Friday about the endeavor.

“While the world is still early in its embrace of Web3, it is a market that is already demonstrating tremendous potential with many customers asking us to increase our support for Web3 and Crypto related technologies,” he wrote.

The new generation of the internet is backed by pioneers that have created decentralized and peer-to-peer systems, challenging the current internet dominated by massive corporations like Amazon, Google, Meta and more.

As such, Google wants to help these pioneers and developers by creating their own Web3 software company that gives users support to pursue creating Web3 applications.

“We’re not trying to be part of that cryptocurrency wave directly,” Zavery told CNBC in an interview. “We’re providing technologies for companies to use and take advantage of the distributed nature of Web3 in their current businesses and enterprises.”

This is just the latest Google announcement regarding their committed effort to become one of the leaders in the Web3 space. Earlier this year, Google’s cloud unit brought forth plans for a Digital Assets team to follow non-fungible tokens (NFTs), their growth and trajectory.

In addition, the company is exploring options for payments using cryptocurrencies, according to Zavery. In short, Zavery named a lot of ways in which Google is exploring and experimenting with their role in Web3. One this is clear, they plan to be the leader on many fronts in the new generation of the internet.

Unfortunately for investors, the enthusiasm surrounding Bitcoin has plummeted in the last year, and especially the last few weeks as the price of Bitcoin continues to drop at a staggering rate.

However, despite the massive decrease in price, experts remain hopeful, pointing out that there is a lot of institutional money in the digital asset.

Despite the recent cryptocurrency trajectory, blockchain applications continue to breakthrough into the mainstream, according to Zavery, and Google wants to help them.
