EBay is entering the non-fungible token (NFT) market with the help of legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky by releasing 13, 3-D animated, limited-edition digital collectibles with web3 platform OneOf, according to a press release Monday.

While there are 13 limited-edition models, each model has its own set of editions within it available. 10 out of the 13 limited-edition models have 299 editions each. That means there are over 2,990 NFTs available out of those 10 editions. However, the remaining three editions are more rare, as there are only 15 diamond tier NFTs, 99 platinum tier and 199 gold tier.

This NFT collection is starting at $10 per NFT, but can go up to as much as $1,500 per NFT as per the diamond tier NFTs. The platinum tier starts at $100 and the gold tier at $25.

"Forty years ago, I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was a monumental moment in my life," says Wayne Gretzky, Sportsman of the Year. "I'm honored to bring this collectible experience to my hockey fans who have followed my career for decades."

Home to 142 million buyers worldwide, eBay boasts the second-largest e-commerce site in the world, only second to Amazon. Earlier this month, eBay bought a 25% stake from toy maker Funko, valued at $263 million.

The NFT platform making this endeavor possible with eBay is OneOf, a “green” NFT platform that uses energy efficient blockchain technology. They claim that their “proof-of-stake” blockchain network uses 2 million times less energy than “proof-of-work” networks. In addition, they say that more than 80% of their collections come from minority creators and women-led projects.
