Reportedly 35 multinational companies including massive names such as Microsoft, Walmart, Mastercard, Sony and Intel, have applied for a total of 212 blockchain patents in China by the end of March 2020.

According to an article from the Global Times, Mastercard currently holds the most blockchain patents with 46. Currently there is no word on whether the company plans on starting a business specifically in China, but these patents could potentially be aligned to help them with their global blockchain payments initiative, which the company developing along with the blockchain software firm R3.
