Huawei, the tech giant, is one of many major companies joining China's new national blockchain committee as the country looks to guide the emerging sector.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published a list Sunday that outlines the 71 companies and public entities that have joined its committee, which has been dubbed the "National Blockchain and Distributed Accounting Technology Standardization Technical Committee." The group has been formed to discuss and set industry standards for distributed ledger technology.

The committee is weighted towards the country's expanding technology sector, with delegates from Huawei, Baidu, fintech companies Tencent and Ant Financial, and e-commerce giant JD.com.
