The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announces Wednesday that they will put additional funding of $150 million to combat COVID-19 in a press release. This brings up the cumulative number of grants to fight COVID-19 from the foundation to over $250 million. The statement also calls for international cooperation.

According to the foundation, the additional fund will be used to support the procurement of essential medical supplies, help life sciences companies develop treatments and vaccines, protect the vulnerable in the US, and help poverty-stricken countries to stop the virus.

According to WHO’s Individual Statements of Account by Member State, in 2019, the US federal funded around $120 million to the WHO. US President Donald Trump recently orders a halt to US funding to the WHO.
