YouTube has appointed Web3 advocate Neal Mohan as its new CEO following the departure of Susan Wojcicki, according to reports by Cointelegraph.

Wojcicki is stepping down after nine years at the company, during which she oversaw the introduction of the revenue-sharing model.

Wojcicki will continue to serve as advisor for YouTube’s parent company, Alphabet.

Prior to his role as CEO, Mohan served as YouTube’s chief product officer and oversaw the removal of the dislike button and the introduction of YouTube Shorts.

Mohan said he plans to introduce a host of Web3-related new features, such as Metaverse-based experiences and content tokenization.

“Web3 also opens up new opportunities for creators. We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper reltionships with their fans…and make money in ways not previously possible,” he wrote in a blog post.
