A former facilities worker from Cohasset, Massachusetts, has been charged with fraud and vandalism after he was caught running a secret cryptocurrency mining operation inside a Massachusetts high school’s crawl space, according to reports by Cointelegraph.

A court hearing for Nadeam Nahas was scheduled for Feb. 23; however, he failed to show up, prompting a default warrant for his arrest.

Nahas is alleged to have stolen $18,000 worth of electricity in order to power his mining operation between April and Dec. in 2021.

The town facilities director reported him to local police after he discovered computers, wiring and ductwork in a crawl space.

Nahas was identified as a suspect after a three-month investigation.
