On July 17, during the hearing regarding Facebook’s new digital currency, Libra, Facebook executive David Marcus avoided answered a question by New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney. 

Maloney asked if Facebook would start with a small pilot program first to address the many concerns from U.S. officials. However, Marcus responded by stated that Facebook would launch the project carefully and ensure that there is “appropriate oversight.”

In response, Maloney expressed her concerns and stated that if Facebook cannot commit to a pilot test, “Congress should seriously consider stopped this project from moving forward.”
