Spanish multinational bank BBVA is partnering up with Madrid Government-backed software institute IMDEA to develop data-based digital solutions that ensure privacy, anonymity, and security of user data, according to a press release of BBVA today. 

The two parties will work on the application of cryptographic techniques in the financial sector, like privacy-enhancing technologies (PET). The main subject to study will be zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), which allows information verification without data sharing.

The collaboration aims to combat growing cybercrimes in the course of rising telecommuting resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic and satisfy the sprouting need of the latest medical data.
