The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on a crypto exchange based in Gaza and its operator, two senior Hamas officials, and six individuals associated with Hamas’s secret investment portfolio.

"“The U.S. Treasury has a long history of effectively disrupting terror finance and we will not hesitate to use our tools against Hamas. We will continue to take all steps necessary to deny Hamas terrorists the ability to raise and use funds to carry out atrocities and terrorize the people of Israel," stated Secretary of State Janet Yellen.

Previously, 86 members of the U.S. Congress exerted pressure the Biden administration to outline its strategies for preventing radical organizations from using cryptocurrencies for terrorism financing.
