US District Judge Richard Jones ruled on Monday that Changpeng Zhao can't return to his home in the United Arab Emirates for now, according to Bloomberg. The decision overrides a previous ruling that had allowed Zhao to leave the United States before his sentencing.
Even though Zhao pleaded guilty to breaking U.S. anti-money laundering and sanctions laws last week, prosecutors voiced apprehension regarding his potential return to the UAE. Their concerns stem from the considerable assets at Zhao's disposal and the fact that the U.S. does not have an extradition treaty with the UAE.
