Ethereum's creator, Vitalik Buterin, has outlined a roadmap for 2024 that comprises six critical phases: merge, surge, scourge, verge, purge, and splurge. 

The "merge" phase, which was completed in September 2022, signified a major transformation for Ethereum as it shifted from a Proof of Work (PoW) to a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This shift significantly reduced the network's energy consumption. Furthermore, Buterin emphasized enhancements in Ethereum's Single-Slot Finality (SSF), aimed at reinforcing the PoS framework.
