Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on August 23 that he is suspending, but not terminating, his 2024 campaign for the U.S. presidency. Speaking from Phoenix, Kennedy criticized the Democratic Party and media, stating that while he will remain on the ballot in most states, he plans to withdraw in ten battleground states to avoid acting as a "spoiler" for either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

Kennedy expressed frustration with the current political system, stating, "In an honest system, I believe I would have won the election." He acknowledged that he no longer sees a realistic path to victory but urged his supporters to vote for him in November, hinting at a potential win if Harris and Trump tie with 269 electoral votes, which would then move the decision to the House of Representatives.

This announcement follows Kennedy's earlier decision to file a statement of withdrawal in Arizona. Though he started his campaign as a Democrat in 2023, RFK Jr. has emphasized digital assets and blockchain technology as central issues in his platform, advocating for Bitcoin and opposing the introduction of a U.S. central bank digital currency.
