Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has been released from French police custody and is now set to appear in court, where he faces a potential indictment, according to a report from AP News.

Durov was arrested in France on August 24 as part of a broader investigation into cybercrime, which alleges that Telegram provided cryptography tools and services used for illegal activities such as money laundering, child pornography, and drug trafficking.

The Wall Street Journal further reported that between 2017 and 2018, Durov allegedly met with French President Emmanuel Macron to move Telegram to France and secure French citizenship. Additionally, French spies are said to have collaborated with the United Arab Emirates to hack Durov's phone.

Amid these developments, Telegram's blockchain platform, The Open Network (TON), experienced a six-hour outage earlier on Wednesday but has since resumed block production. The platform's native token, Toncoin, saw a slight 1.25% increase, trading at $5.53.
