On August 29, traders lost millions after the X account of Real Madrid footballer Kylian Mbappé was hacked. The hacker used the account to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency token, misleading investors with promises of doubled returns. The scam led to the Kylian Mbappé (MBAPPE) token's market cap soaring to $460 million before crashing below $100,000.

One trader, unaware of the hack, lost over $1 million worth of Solana (SOL) tokens within an hour. The scam has raised alarms across the crypto community, with Crypto.com among the major platforms warning users to avoid the fake token. Despite the losses, some savvy traders managed to profit, including one who turned $28 into $124,000 before the token’s value collapsed.
