According to sources, in US-EU trade negotiations, the US is demanding the EU make unilateral concessions that are seen as unbalanced by EU officials. If the terms of a potential agreement are not improved, the EU will face a difficult decision on whether to take retaliatory measures. Insiders reveal that the best-case scenario is still reaching an agreement on principles to allow negotiations to continue after the deadline in early July. Washington's demands can be categorized into three types: measures related to fish export quotas, which EU officials say may not comply with WTO rules; non-reciprocal tariff-related measures; and a series of economic security demands described by EU officials as far-fetched. Even if an agreement is reached, many of Trump's tariffs will remain unchanged. The EU has been seeking a mutually beneficial agreement and will assess any final outcome to decide at that stage how much imbalance it is willing to accept, if any.
