According to CNBC, the US government has lifted export restrictions on chip design software to China. Chip design software giants Synopsys and Cadence have both confirmed this news and stated that they are resuming software and technology access for Chinese customers. Previously, the US had required companies including Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA to obtain licenses before exporting to China by May 23, 2025. These three companies collectively hold about 74% of the global Electronic Design Automation (EDA) market share. This move comes after both the US and China reached a conditional agreement on a trade truce last week, with China agreeing to resume some rare earth and advanced technology exchanges.
