According to encrypted currency independent journalist L0la L33tz, documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show that the amount of Bitcoin held by the US Marshals Service is much lower than previously thought. The Department of Justice revealed in a response that as of March, the agency only holds 28,988 BTC, valued at approximately $3.4 billion at current prices. This number significantly differs from other market data sources: Arkham Intelligence estimates that various US government departments collectively hold nearly $25 billion worth of encrypted currency assets, while Bitcoin Treasuries data shows that the US government should hold 198,012 BTC (about $25 billion). Senator Cynthia Lummis, a major supporter of strategic Bitcoin reserves, expressed shock on social media, stating that it is reported that the US has sold over 80% of its Bitcoin reserves, leaving only about 28,988 BTC. If true, this would be a significant strategic mistake, setting the US back several years in the competition in the Bitcoin field.
