According to Financefeeds, a software engineer at the Indian crypto exchange CoinDCX, which suffered a loss of approximately $44.2 million in a previous attack, has been arrested for assisting a hacker attack internally, although unintentionally. The employee's computer was infected with malicious software by hackers under the guise of part-time work. The software was a sophisticated keylogger, allowing remote attackers to extract Agarwal's login credentials, thus gaining unauthorized access to CoinDCX's internal systems, resulting in approximately $44 million worth of cryptocurrency being stolen. CoinDCX's parent company, Neblio Technologies, reported this violation to authorities in Bangalore, triggering a large-scale cybercrime investigation. An internal investigation by the company revealed that the employee received 1.5 million rupees in part-time income.
